While paneling is a nice way to give a classic shape a certain extra definition and articulation, I'll admit there have been times when I've picked a paneled pipe up and thought, "Well, this is just lovely, if you're partial to being poked by hard edges every time you smoke.
" Fortunately, this isn't one of them. This big, broad, and thoroughly paneled Ashton conforms just right in hand, the large proportions and octagonal cross-section making for a natural fit. Throw in a capacious chamber and plenty of substance to the walls, and you've got all the makings of a fine English pipe for those particularly long and billowing smokes.
