Egg, Billiard, and Stack seem to meet here, produce a chimera of a shape that's at once all of them and yet not quite clearly pinned down as any of them. Fitting to the exotic shape, Paolo's done it all in a particularly wild-grained material that's only recently seen more acceptance; strawberry wood. And dusky, smoky, beautifully contrast strawberry wood at that. Fitting in with the "chimera" theme, the design itself is a mix of the softly supple and a counterpointing sharpness, the former represented by the stem, shank, transition and bowl, the latter by the prominent spur-like projection of the underside. And, really, without the latter to play to and accentuate the former, it wouldn't work half so well.
