Bruce Weaver: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Jobolli
Product Number: 002-531-0062
Yet another fine example of his exquisite, ultra-fine sandblasts. That's right, Bruce Weaver has done it again, folks. With careful precision, he attacks the soft parts of the wood, never touching the growth rings, in order to preserve the natural balance and symmetry of the shape. It just so happens here, however, that the shape is, by nature, asymmetrical — featuring a sort of Lars Ivarsson treatment of the shank and transition with the teardrop ridge extending along the base and up the plump, Apple bowl. The result is a briar with a natural flowing, organic profile — one that feels remarkably natural in hand with just a touch of stimulating texture from its shaping and finish.
It's seen here sporting a warm, subtle contrast stain that highlights some particularly choice flame spouting up from under layer after layer of ring grain. Flip it over, and you'll find that unique bubbling aesthetic only produced from sandblasting large patches of birdseye. To accent, Bruce fashioned a tasteful band of Jobolli along the mount and topped it off with an elegant cumberland stem. I don't know about you, but to me, it's a handsome composition that's just hard to pass up.
