One of the things I love most right now about Bruce Weaver's work is how surprised am I each time I've the opportunity to handle new pipes from the carver. Take this piece, for instance; I simply didn't expect from Weaver a pipe with these kinds of transitions, particularly its hiked bowl cheeks along the heel, nor would I have presumed he would produce this manner of bowl, what with its Grechukhin inspired, drawn back tobacco chamber. But it's a pleasant surprise, as the work is exceptionally good (what else would you expect?), and is beautifully composed. Bruce Weaver can throw me the unexpected anytime.
