About This Pipe
The Calabash, and Calabash-esque bent Dublins as well (which this very much is), are inherently gestural, even whimsical in the nature of their shaping. It's easy then to look at something like this, and think of it as a rather Pesaro design, despite Castello not being a Pesaro-school pipemaker. Castello, however, is older than the Pesaro school, and if you look at a lot of their other classic shapes, you'll see that smooth, graceful, muscular transition and shank shaping, like that seen here, is one of their well-established signatures.
