The phrase 'generous size', when it comes to describing a Cavicchi, is almost always a redundancy; Claudio rarely, if ever, skimps on the lumber. Even so, this is a fairly impressively sized pipe even by Cavicchi standards. The style seems to fall more into the Pesaro camp than most of the Maestro's work, taking on a kind of sleekness that I wouldn't normally associate with a sphere of this size.
Prior to my recent return to your favorite tobacconist, if someone had told me that the famous Cavicchi grain had become even better, I would have looked at the gent as if he'd grown a second head. It has, as impossible as it may sound, surpassed the levels that I had come to know in 2010; this Apple doesn't even carry a 'C' designation and it will still blow the proverbial doors off many a 'straight grain' in my personal collection.
