The Notturno is Bruto Sordini's way of offering smooth pipes that couldn't quite make the "Note" grade. He refuses to use fills on briars bearing his mark, so when natural blemishes (i.e. small sand pits) prevent a briar from earning a Note, he instead uses this extra-dark contrast. The results? The flame grain and/or birdseye shines through (in the case of this Bulldog, both, and plenty), while natural flaws in the briar become barely visible.
