While, by his own admission, Bruto Sordini’s art can be effusive and pointedly eccentric, when it comes to shapes which fall into that broad straight Billiard, Lumberman, Lovat (etc.) family, he almost becomes a rigid traditionalist. Massive of bowl, more slender of shank, take a look at the grain of this beauty and then consider that this One-Note sits within Don Carlos’ entry
grade for a smooth briar (the Notturno
is kind of a subcategory). When it comes to smooth pipes, I think Bruto’s latest work will invariably draw comparisons with that of Cavicchi’s, and this grain is every bit as fine as any “CCC” we have on the site from the latter.
