While Massimiliano Rimensi can be counted as one of the early champions of strawberry wood, and his presentations have been uniformly excellent, they still represent the minority of his work, briar and morta being first and second. This Barone Apple, only the sixth strawberry wood smoking instrument we have received from Rimensi, is almost spartan of contrast compared to many Il Duca dual stains, emphasizing a certain stoicism between the dark, mottled hues and gnarled grain patterns. Amazingly light in the paw (25.52g) and with a center of gravity just behind the bowl, this amiable Apple is a delight to handle, and, with that cumberland stem and horn inlay, equally enchanting to the eye.
