Max is an artist who loves to experiment with a wide range of materials. From horn, to bone, to bamboo, to cumberland, he has a way of beautifully matching accents to shapes. Here we see one of his latest compositions made from the fossilized oak morta. While many carvers transform the material into large, thick-walled shapes, Max presents us with quite an elegant and trim design. An Apple/Lovat hybrid, it features a plump bowl paired with an elongated round shank and saddle stem. It sports an even, thorough sandblast complete with a horn accent and cumberland saddle stem for a classy composition - making this little number quite a different type of dress pipe.
