About This Pipe
The Black Briar finish was introduced in 1973 (initially, the finish was less opaque than we see today) and later renamed as Dress in 1979. Then the Black Briar marque was resurrected. There are times that it can be pretty hard to tell these two players apart, without the benefit of a score card.or at least a gander at the stamping panel. The Dress always features a sterling band, while the Black Briar can be adorned with a similar band, appear as a sterling spigot or, in the case of this chimney, with a magnificent piece of horn on the mount. Still confused? Welcome to the club (we'll show ya the secret hand shake later).
