Tom Eltang: Smooth Eskimo with Boxwood (Snail)
Product Number: 002-299-0316
It's been a great long while since we've seen from Tom Eltang one of his Eskimo shaped pipes, a variation on Sixten Ivarsson's fabled Ukelele. At the heart of the form is a rather straightforward Bulldog, though what's different here, as can be seen plainly enough, is a body that's been flattened out wide and ironed down smooth, rendering the piece extraordinarily expansive in feel while arranging a perfect canvas to show of tons of gorgeous bird's eye grain. The pipe before you not only flaunts Tom's extraordinary affinity for the shape, it's also the first we've seen from him that's fitted with a stationary boxwood cap above the bead.
