Tom Eltang: Rusticated Poker with Bamboo

Product Number: 002-299-0372

If the innate curiosity, hard work and experimentation of Tom Eltang eventually yielded his legendary Golden Contrast stain, wouldn't it stand to reason that he wouldn't settle for second when it came to rustication as well? While I had long felt that I had a pretty good eye for surface techniques, when I first encountered this rustication technique years ago, I have to confess that I chalked it up to an incredibly powerful, highly focused sandblasting. Sykes, who had actually watched the process on many occasions (lucky dog), quickly disabused me of this notion; this is pretty much carving, with only the occasional finishing kiss of the sandblaster. Nonetheless, the results of the process never cease to amaze me, nor fail to please collectors.
