Alex Florov: Partially Sandblasted Tomato with Mastondon
Product Number: 002-354-0156
Just as a full-length sleeve with a bell-shaped cuff may be used to lead the eye to and accentuate the delicate beauty of the female hand, artisan pipemakers may use a dark, sandblasted shank and particularly defined transition to emphasize a beautifully formed and grained bowl. That is, as you can see, just what Alex Florov has done here, with considerable attention paid to rendering a precise, detailed, yet still not too conspicuous border between bowl and transition. The more general shaping also works to this end as well, with a smooth, delicate taper leading into the transition to produce a wasp-waisted effect, all the better to show off the voluptuousness of the bowl.
