Here we have a very playful interpretation of, well, a number of shapes. The bowl is reminiscent of a very Japanese Blowfish if viewed laterally and equally evocative of a Volcano or a Saucer. However, viewed head-on the Shield comes to mind. The long shank is quite graceful and the backward sloping angle of the shank's end lends the entire composition some considerable forward momentum.
The grain orientation is exquisite and the stem's fluid shaping ends in a delightfully thin and comfortable bit. The brass ring reinforcement at the mortise is masterfully accomplished.
Striking and other-worldly, organic and graceful, this pipe serves as testament to the wide and varied influences which FLorov synthesizes into his own unique creative voice.
