”Hans ‘Former’ Nielsen; boasting a career spanning over five decades, collaborations with virtually every legendary Danish carver, keeper of the neoclassical flame, and carver (par excellence) of reinterpretations through elongation” (Sound of phonograph needle screeching across LP vinyl)
Ok, that last part has never been a part of what I consider my “Former catechism”. Still, our recent shipment from this most traditional of the Danish grandmasters held a couple of compositions which feature wickedly perfect examples of “tradition, writ long”, and this is one of them.
The bowl is signature Former, it would find itself perfectly at home with most any of his bent Apples which we have seen in the past. Pair it with a low profile, elongated, half-moon shank of clean, effortlessly flowing arc, as well as half saddle bit, however, and what do you get? The same perfection which has been one of the long hallmarks of all of Former’s work. While not quite ready to rewrite my Former attribute litany, if this keeps up for a while, I will certainly have to.
