Gabriele: Smooth Bent Egg with Boxwood (Whale)

Product Number: 002-533-0046

Though a relative newcomer to describing Gabriel Dal Fiume pipes, perhaps a year or so, I have already seen many pipes from the Italian maestro which I have found incredibly attractive (ok, almost all). I have found a few which have stolen my heart (perhaps 20%, lust is always predicated on a given individual's hot-buttons). Now I encounter this impossibly alluring Whale stamp bent Egg, and the target of my weekend stalking schedule has changed forever — or at least until it sells.

Gabriel's stamping (post 2009), isn't a grading system per se, though one can infer a good deal from a given stamp. A Whale stamp indicates a "smooth pipe of fine grain", and if that was the totality of maestro Dal Fiume's observations about this beauty, the carver possesses a modesty beyond reason. Smooth? Check. Fine grain? No, this is outstanding grain. Though he wouldn't be likely to follow any suggestion from me, I think Dal Fiume needs to create a "OK, this is a killer interpretation of a neoclassic" stamp (he already has a Nautilus for "A harmonic shape").
