I’m a sucker for Bulldogs, so perhaps it’s no surprise that this pipe was, for me, the standout piece in our latest batch from Peter Heeschen. I’m really taken with the way he has managed to impart a great deal of grace and elegance to a traditionally masculine shape. He has done so in a variety of ways, but particularly through the slightly squat proportions of the bowl, which allows for a smooth, flowing transition to the shank and stem. The pipe doesn’t lack those quintessential Bulldog lines; it even gains a few from the paneled shank. But like the rest of the composition, those lines seem a bit softer than on a traditional Bulldog.
