This handsome pipe landed on my desk this morning titled 'Cobra'. Having just handled a share of Peter Heeschen Cobras over the last few weeks I feel justified re-christening this piece as a 'bent Egg'. You see, while here the grain orientation is set up for a Cobra shape (wide tiger stripes of straight grain that run down the sides of the bowl and shank), the proper Peter Heeschen Cobra pronounces this grain by paneling the sides of the bowl from rim to heel (think Elephant's Foot). With rounded sides, the composition reads much closer to that of the bent Egg. The result is a typically lovely, stylish Egg shaped pipe in the Heeschen way with some tremendous grain. Call it whatever you like, this is one pretty piece.
