Although the "P" is technically Peter Heeschen's signature shape, one could make the argument that his Cobra is also as signature. The Cobra, which is a cross between the traditional Elephant's Foot (on account of the grain orientation and side panels) and Peter's trademark Bent Egg, is ordinarily quiet lovely in form. But here we have a piece particularly fetching. Stained in a soft, amber-walnut hue under a matte finish, the wispy, fanned grain along the pipe's flanks in tandem with the extraordinarily defined, speckled bird's eye that makes up the front and back of the bowl offer this exquisitely shaped piece some truly exciting character.
Instantly recognizable as the work of the Danish pipe carver and former tool maker, the Cobra is at least a testament to Peter's ability to produce elegant, highly stylish pipes that are impossible to be mistaken as the work of another artisan. And that's a good thing.
