With a height approaching two and three quarter inches, the bowl of this billiard would be considered very nicely sized by most any company in a standard configuration/length, but on a churchwarden it is positively off the hook. Mogens Johansen, late of Bjarne and present owner and carver of Johs pipes, looked at the "traditional" churchwarden bowl size and couldn't see any real justification for the pairing of a diminutive bowl with a long bit. Churchwardens, due to their very length, were pipes of hearth and home, not pocket pipes for when one is out and about, and needs a quick smoke when an opportunity arises. The larger bowled churchwarden was placed into a regular production... and pipe smokers have flocked to the Johs churchwarden in droves. Featuring a delightfully Danish freehand shaping and excellent grain coverage, I believe that this is one member of the flock that will fly right out of here.
