This is the first Nautilus we've ever received from Kevin Arthur; a distinctive shape not uncommon in the Danish and Japanese schools, but infrequently spotted from artisans outside of either. Though by nature one of the more complex freehands to pull off (get that spiral curve wrong anywhere, and it will show), Kevin took up the challenge of rendering it in a modest scale - about the size of a Dunhill Group 5 bent Dublin. Going larger, understand, would have left more room for re-shaping should a line have not turned out just right, or an unacceptable flaw in the briar have developed. Despite this being a shape that's outside Kevin's usual work, and the more challenging scale, he did a sound job of it nonetheless - and managed to produce a very impressive coverage of well-oriented ring grain while about it.
