I didn't think this Poker could sit with its bit elevated. I was wrong. It's a neat trick Kevin's played here: a bowl that appears to shift slightly backward
, rather than forward, and a shank and stem that seem to actively reach and extend rearward. By all appearances, this briar should fall back to rest on its bit the second you set it down. Yet appearances are deceiving - deliberately tipping it back onto its bit only results in the pipe returning fully upright. The trick, I suspect, lays in the first element I spoke of, the bowl's apparent backward shift.
The bowl does not actually have a backward shift; rather, the heel and lowermost bowl have a forward one, pulling the briar's mass, and thus balance too, with it.
