The Pickaxe is an unusual and seldom-seen shape, and this L'Anatra displays an unusual and seldom-seen approach to it. Typically the Pickaxe appears in sharp and rakish form, but here Massimo and Andrea went with a powerful, massive, broad-flanked style for the bowl, trailed by a (relatively) light, easy-flowing shank and stem. Altogether it calls to mind the waters of a huge wave rolling and crashing in, followed by a calmer, gentler retreat back into the sea. It also happens to provide a great deal of extra canvas on which to display this particular briar's copious and suitably wild ring grain.
