Paul Hubbartt was born in Iceland (and hence the Icelandic patronymic used as his marque), and today makes his pipes in Cornwall, England, but spent most of his life Indiana. As such, it's no surprise that there's a modern American artisan influence to be found in his work. This bent Apple, for example, displays the kind of smooth, controlled lines and the refined and crisp quality of sandblast that has distinguished the best work produced by the new wave of US artisans which have risen to recognition over the past decade. And no doubt there are plenty out there of every school who would give a pretty penny to learn how he achieved that contrast, too.
