Larrysson: Smooth Bent Tulip with Mastodon Ivory
Product Number: 002-456-0052
S. Bang was the first name to come to mind when I spied this bent Tulip, though the compactly rounded, helmet-like stem base also hints a certain Adam Davidson pipe I've seen before, which itself used a similar cue to accentuate S. Bang-ish elements of the design. And truth be told, if I hadn't already known who made it I might of mistaken this Larryson for an unusually large Per-and-Ulf creation. If anything might have given it away, it would have been the trim ring of contoured mastodon ivory serving as an accent, which is more restrained than the few examples of S. Bang ivory accents I've come across, and the especially rich and deep, yet very well-defined black-and-walnut contrast stain, itself being a Larryson signature.
