About This Pipe
For dedicated pipe collectors, there are many "grails" to be sought, each with a varying degree of difficulty to obtain. Some of these treasures simply require enough savings that one can walk into any retailer or pipe show and pay for it. On the polar opposite side we have a Lars Ivarsson Fish grade pipe. How rare is a Lars Fish? Ivarssons annual production, over the span of a nearly fifty year career, has been roughly sixty pipes per annum. Lars Ivarsson averages roughly one Fish Grade a year. One is not going to pop into a local brick and mortar and pick one up.
The shape of this pipe has been called by what seems to be a myriad of names. "Bent ball/brandy" being the most common. This shape, while crafted by many *is* Lars Ivarsson's. Within the Ivarsson pipe dynasty, Lars is recognized as the most organic, and delightful touches abound (the rim alone could be used as a lesson in the quietly organic). The overarching composition touches with such a soft perfection, I dare say that even a few microns of change would diminish the work.
