As soft and smooth in hand as it is of aesthetic, Luciano's unusual 2012 Pipe of the Year design brings to mind something you might more typically expect in a freehand meerschaum - particularly given that Luciano usually tends to stick to more traditional neoclassical shapes. The tapering of the river-stone-like bowl from back to front is an interesting touch, as plays together with the smoothly sweeping line of the underside to give the briar a much more active look in profile than you would expect from such a low, broadly-proportioned design.
