Peter loves to produce this shape. We love to see them. Over the last six months or so we've handled a few of these 'freehand' pieces from the likes of the Austrian pipe maker, and each is an impressive mix of unique, stylized shaping design, and dramatic parade of both bird's eye grain and straight grain. By cutting the pipe's port side a few degrees off the middle and down a hard left into it's shank, Peter has effectively opened up a display panel of swirling, mottled, deeply marbled grain. The right side is left awash in dazzling straight, fan, and flame grain, brought to life by a Matzhold's signature high-contrast rose-khaki stain. Here he's capped off the shank mount with a slice of fetching boxwood.
