I don't believe I've ever seen an Author with a saddle stem before. Still, that didn't stop Michael Lindner from making one, and to that I say good for him. Though appreciation for the Author does seem to have grown in recent years, it's still not a shape you see very often, and not with a whole lot of variation either - they tend to be chubby and compact, emulating the old Comoy's take, or big, broad, meaty handfuls after the Italian style. What Michael's done here is essentially created a bowl and shank in the style of the former, but tossed in a contrasting touch of crispness, not to mention a novel bit color via some very fine-patterned black-and-olive cumberland.
