Michael Lindner: Sandblasted Apple with Bamboo (C2)
Product Number: 002-514-0095
Typically when you see bamboo on a pipe, it's either a great, long, delicately thin procession of knuckles used to elegant effect, or two-to-three short, stout ones playing more to the natural material's inherent, organic asymmetry (for the record, Michael is one of the few carvers I have known who can make a dandy single knuckle as well). This Lindner Apple with bamboo sports two magnificent knuckles, and the interval between the bamboo of the ferrule and the briar of the bowl is text-book perfect. The bowl exudes a profound amount of quiet, almost Shinto spirit, and does so while maintaining a perfect symmetry (no mean feat). While I have seen Michael finish a straight bamboo with a full saddle stem to fine effect, I think this election suits this sandblasted Apple to a "T".
