Michael Lindner has his letter grades, and then he has his Designs - the absolute cream of the crop of his creations. In this incarnation, we find his Design presenting us with a bamboo-stemmed Elephants Foot, a difficult shape to tackle, which, unsurprisingly, does tend to crop up predominantly amongst the highest grades of independent pipemakers, particularly of the Danish and Japanese schools. Michael has gone for a more robust look than is typical of Danish and Japanese pieces, however, his broad-faced bowl allowing the briar's gorgeous birdseye that much more canvas upon which to display itself, and then balancing it all out with a stout three knuckles worth of pale bamboo.
