The System pipe, patented in 1894, has been a mainstay of Peterson's selection ever since. It was designed to trap moisture in a well at the bottom of the shank, minimizing gurgle and keeping the smoke cool and dry. Because it does that so well, it has developed an extraordinary following over the past 115 years. Though presented here in the System series, the '304', along with its larger brother, the '306', is one of the few Peterson shapes to have the same numerical designation whether its in Peterson's standard range of shapes or in Peterson's lineup of System shapes.
