I love a good straight Billiard. The first pipe I bought back in the late nineties was a straight Billiard and today the shape remains one of the most prevalent on my pipe rack. The form stirs in my imagination notions of mid-twentieth century Americana, post war advertisements for suburban lifestyle and Beat culture. The spirit of this piece by Rad Davis is decidedly American, as it displays a compact muscularity as well as an undeniable sense of the elegant and intuitive. His beautiful sandblast, here highlighted by a muted, light walnut stain, shows off some incredible ring grain and fan grain. It's a really lovely pipe, and I'm truly very sorry to have to put it down.
