Here Rad Davis is clearly taking inspiration from Castello, or more to the point, their iconic "55" bent Pot. Of course, it's not as if he were trying to hide it - there is no hiding the origins of that distinctive combination of broad, jutting-heeled bowl and curving, aquiline shank and stem. He's not the first to try his hand at it either, as a lot of artisans, especially of the Italian school, have made their own renditions of this design at one time or another. Few are able to do so with such a fine-textured sandblasting technique, however, and few succeed in adding their own personal variation so boldly, yet so fittingly as Rad has done here, shaping the underside for bowl, shank, and stem so as to follow one smooth, continuous line, leading to a dramatically emphasized heel.
