Sometimes I wonder why Radice doesn't just use bamboo. Granted, it's a complicated process to get everything fitted and secured properly, but then it's probably no small amount of work to carve something as stubborn as briar into such a accurate facsimile of bamboo, too. I can only presume that at least one of the Radices simply enjoys creating shanks like the one seen here - probably Luigi, I'd guess. (I recall one of his sons mentioning that they try not to leave their father alone in the workshop too long, as he likes to get up to all manner of design-related mischief when they aren't watching.) Of course, as you can see, aside from the hand-carved shank, this Dublin also happens to sport some serious flame grain, and the extra-tight plateau up top to match.
