I think the word I'm looking for here is "eccentric". There's no doubt about it, if I were asked to compare this whimsical variation of the bent Bulldog to any literary character, it would have to be the Mad Hatter. It gestures smoothly, yet is clearly completely bonkers, and even the proportions, with its trim shank and lofty, capacious bowl are more than little reminiscent of both Tenniel's illustrations and the later Disney depiction of that particularly curious character. And given the great depth of chamber, it would be a pretty appropriate smoker to have on hand for an all-day tea-party.
