Here the Castello's iconic '55' Pot has been shortened and fattened into a very aggressive little Nosewarmer. And its features translated so well and with so much personality. The original, typically low-slung, broad-bowled, yet sleek and strong from the prominent jutting heel--now just as dashing, but with a pugnacious attitude, like a compact, tenacious Staffordshire terrier; it even shares the old '55's' touch of Hawkbill, given the ark of the shank and stem, here much abbreviated. Design aside, its carved in morta, a material which is (essentially) semi-fossilized bog oak, and one which can smoke with the purity of meerschaum, with taste hints towards the earthiness of a great pu-erh tea. Given that Luigi Radice got his start at Castello, it's no surprise he occasionally revisits this shape from time to time, albeit with his own unique spin.
