Kent Rasmussen: Partially Rusticated Horn with Mazur Birch
Product Number: 002-287-0161
Kent Rasmussen has been drawing and sculpting since he was a child, and with a formal education in architecture and engineering, it's little surprise that since picking up the pipemaking bug more than a decade ago, he's become known as a man who produces pipes that are as much works of art as finely-engineered smoking instruments. Of course, amongst collectors it's the art that really distinguishes Kent's work, for his arrangements of line and form, color, grain, and texture truly are the ultimate in sublime. From the arrangement of grain and smoothness of taper on the mazur stem-accent and the slim ring of silver surrounding the mortise, to the subtle elements of asymmetry and the fluidly dramatic lines that sweep through and define the shaping of the briar itself, to the striking and bold, yet elegantly played contrast between upper and lower surfaces, this Rasmussen creation is, indeed, truly a work of art.
