New Pipes: Rolando Negoita: Smooth Cetacean

Product Number: 002-298-0143

Rolando's cetacean shape is perhaps his single most recognizable contribution to the world's body of pipe shapes. This is an unusual riff on the shape. Not only is it inverted from its customary orientation, but it sports spectacular plateau around the chamber on the front of the pipe. The piece sits beautifully between a flattened space at the end of its tail and a very subtle flat area immediately below the front of the pipe. The stem is also unusual, for Rolando or any other pipe maker. It is vulcanite, but the swirls we normally associate with cumberland are presented in a grayish green that is both startling and quite attractive. Indeed, it's something of a nod to the colors of the marine mammals that inspired the shape.
