Smio Satou: Sandblasted Bent Billiard
Product Number: 002-142-0331
There's a bit of flare to the base of that stem, but I have to say that even with it included, this is one of the most reserved briars I've seen from Smio Satou. It's a Billiard - a classic Billiard underneath it all, just one that happens to have been hand-shaped by a highly skilled Japanese artisan, with a more natural and easy flow to both the underlying gesture and the individual lines as a result. Had Smio been making pipes like this a hundred-and-some-odd years ago, Alfred Dunhill may not have stood a chance, and we might well have wound up turning to pipes of the Japanese school for our textbook examples of what a classic shape should be.
