Satou only sandblasts about 10 percent of his work, which means that at an annual production of 30-40 pipes, 50 in a hallmark year, a blasted piece from the estimable carver is a rare and satisfying joy. Now consider that this is the very first sandblasted Pot we have had the pleasure to place on the site. Though not a cinch, this might well be the only one you or I will ever see.
If this roguish rake turns out to be the first and the last of its kind, what a fine entrance & finale. The left of the bowl presents a corona of birdseye in the middle, a type of visual epicenter, with super tight shock waves rippling outward from the same. Flipping over to the right side, it’s almost as if that which did not become a ripple or ejecta on the left, shot through the body, becoming birdseye upon its exit. Great stuff.
