Smio Satou: Sandblasted Acorn with Bamboo
Product Number: 002-142-0307
Satou only sandblasts about 20 percent of his work, which means that at an annual production of between 20 and 40 pipes, a blasted piece from the estimable carver is a rare and satisfying joy. Especially in this instance, when the outcome is so evidently gorgeous, what with regular, shallow ring grains that tumble down the pipe's bowl awash in a dynamic maroon and burgundy two-tone stain. It's an interestingly shaped piece, part Dublin, part Acorn, part Rhodesian, made all the more appealing having been fitted to a couple knuckles worth of blonde bamboo, and a rather eccentric looking, swirling mouthpiece of golden rod acrylic.
