By any pipe maker's standards, the pipe presented on your monitor would be considered a good size pipe. Compared to the general body of Smio Satou's work, this pipe is huge. Often when a pipe maker moves a bit out of what I perceive as his "size zone" I have a tendency to look for a weakness (not totally rational, but I tend to nonetheless). This pipe is is stellar. Satou-san's quiet minimalism is well in play in the overarching composition and not one whit of his signature harmony is sacrificed on the altar of larger scale. Fantastic grain at every turn, poignantly beautiful balance and bamboo work that sets the standard for the industry... this pipe is the very embodiment of all that is "good and right" in Satou's pipes. The body is simply bigger.
