Sporting a large bowl and interestingly shaped piece of bamboo, this piece is something of a departure for Smio Satou, both in terms of size and in terms of general aesthetic feel. The bowl shape is very Danish, with the visual weight sitting near the bottom, superlative straight grain right the way around the bowl and nice birdseye on the bottom. This piece of bamboo was an interesting choice for Satou, as it curves just slightly, creating a hint of visual interest and a subtle departure from ideas inherited from the Danish classic tradition. Beautiful work!
