The Ivarsson-inspired tear drop shank has become a mainstay of the Danish pipe-making aesthetic. This Scott Klein Bent Brandy showcases many of the advantages of the design. The roundness of the right side of the pipe highlights the briar’s beautiful straight grain, while the point of the tear drop on the left side brings a sense of definition, especially as Mr. Klein has extended the line from the shank all the way to the rim. The extra-wide shank also accents the birdseye that is found on both the top and bottom of the pipe. In addition to its visual appeal, the pipe also sits quite nicely— a bit ironic because I don’t think it’s going to sit for too long on our site.
