Normally I might express surprise at such a fantastic display of grain, the broad strokes of ultra-fine stranded flame perfectly contrasted by a bengal contrast stain that is at once smoky, luminous, and superbly defined. But this is a Skovgaard "Lion", after all, and Lasse doesn't slap this grade on anything but his very best. Of course, the birdseye is no slouch either, with a light, lovely freckling along the narrow rim, and a great, broad swathe of tortoiseshell pattern rolling up smoothly along the underside. But, again, that is just the kind of thing we should know to expect from a Lasse "Lion".
