The '191' shape from Stanwell is one of the few regular shape chart shapes that I don't know designer information on. And frankly, I couldn't even guess who designed it. The bowl reminds me of S. Bang a bit, while the shank reminds me more of Poul Ilsted. I've always been struck by it nonetheless. The subtle curvature of the paneled shank flows beautifully into the rounded, softened bulldog shaped bowl. We normally think of the bulldog as such a masculine, almost aggressive shape, but that certainly isn't the case with this pipe: the high double beading and soft lines lend the shape an elegance that is rarely seen in this most solidly manly of shapes. It's just a great shape, and in a lovely medium brown stain to boot.
