The briars of Tokutomi Pipe Company are collaborative works, husband/father/master artisan Hiroyuki Tokutomi typically handling the drilling and engineering, while his wife, Kazue, and their daughter, Yuki, see to shaping, sanding, and detail work. As the stamping on this piece indicates, this strongly-proportioned, yet graceful bent Apple was largely Yuki's work, and it must be said that growing up with a pipemaker for a father has payed off. The design is simple, but simple in that kind of way that doesn't have need for embellishment - and that would have made any error in line or form that much more obvious, had there been any. It's the kind of design that might be best summed up as charming in result, yet challenging in creation.
