About This Pipe
Just when I think I have the art of Hiroyuki Tokutomi down cold, he creates a composition that is stunningly different, and filled with a new intrigue. This is such a pipe. The overall shape is a large blowfish that is edgy and abstract, in the extreme. The size of the shank and mount approaches 40% the size of the bowl, and the overall impression is geologic, not aquatic. The grain of the sandblast reinforces this geologic feeling, looking much like the sandstone of Monument Valley, after untold years of wind erosion. The man is most amazing.
